Sebastian Faulkes never seems to slip up, and this is one of his very best books. For me, it may be the pick of this small collection of recommended books. It is certainly the best book that I have read in a while.

Set in Paris, the book tells us of two love stories. Well, that seems a good start, but there is so much more. We learn about the Algerian conflict with France, the Vichy government, the Resistance, and of how the Jews were treated in Paris. during the Second World War. Most of this was vague history to me, but now I know so much more....
